I am a guy and have been from butt length to ear length and being 43 I still dont know what looks best. On that I will say, what you see as drab and boring, is another persons desire.
Try different things it breaks up the monotany and it feels cool having a different look once and a while. Or try just a small amount of Gel and use it on the length not the top it will add weight to pull the top down. Remember you can allways hit a shop that has the computer software that will take your picture and put different styles on ya so you get an idea what you will look like in different styles.
At any rate dont lose sleep over it you probably have beautiful long curly hair and enjoy it while you have it, it tends to disappear as you get older ;)
