Will getting layers for long, thick wavy hair make my hair poofy??

Hey everyone,

I have long (just below my shoulders) thick, black, wavy hair and I want to get it cut. I've been thinking of getting it thinned out then getting layers that start at the chin. But, I am afraid of how it'll turn out, and I have heard that getting layers with my kind of hair make it poofy ( something i definitely do not want) :S Please help me out , thanx!!! :)

If you like your hair to be one length then thinning will not be the answer because thinning puts diffrent layer into it. What you should do if you want to thin it is have your hair dresser section out the top layer of your hair and pin it up out of the way, and thin only what is in the middle section of your hair. Don't do the nape area of your hair unless you don't want to pull your hair up, it will leave short pieces there. Then the top pinned up layer will fall over the thinned hair and it will still look one length. If you do want to put in some layers put in long one just so that you wont have a boxy one length hair cut. Your layers should only be at the last few inch's of hair, to short of layers will poof out in the middle of your head. And use a silicon based shine serum to help tame down fizz and make the hair shiny. Hope this helps, good luck!

Yes it will get poofy. You can straighten your hair everyday or scrunch it often though.
