My hair is thick and wavy and I have the hardest time figuring out what to do with it. Whenever I scrunch my hair it only makes it look worse. I usually straighten my hair, but I don't want ot have to do that all the time because I don't want to damage my hair. I also put my hair in a ponytail a lot but it is getting boring. I don't know what else to do. What can I do to fix this problem?
Problems with thick wavy hair?
I have the exact same problem. The only time i can control my hair is if i put a whole lot of different products on it to control it. I also regressed to straightening it daily because it was just easier to deal with. I found a couple great products to put on my hair that helped it keep its shape without going frizzy. One is a a dual conditioning for natural or curly hair, its called Care Free Curl Gold by Soft Sheen-Carson. It works great with my hair.

I have very thick hair and the only answer is getting it layered and also "texturized" or "thinned'. This helps incredibly...reduces the bulk.

i have the same problem i usually straighten or tie it up too... but i'm gonna get it layered i dont kno if that will help it tho
Problems with thick wavy hair?
Same deal with my hair, so I just keep it short. It curls up in whatever way it goes whether I try to do something or not, so just short and out of the way.

yeah i also suggest getting your hair thinned.
but you should embrace your wavy hair, i have wavy hair also and everyone always tells me they are jealous of it!
:)
before i felt comfortable going out with my natural waves i would take a shower at night let it semi air dry then while it was still damp/wet i would braid it into 2 braids then go to sleep.
take the braids out in the morning spray a curling spray and then go to school. but the curling spray isnt needed really.
:) good luck.
Problems with thick wavy hair?
i hav very thick hair so i straighten my hair all the time too. so i hav a flat iron that uses infared heat so that it doesnt damage my hair. its expensive but its worth it. oh yea, and i use this conditioner to reduce frizz and keep it straight when its humid.
Conditioner: Maxius Beyond Straight
Flat Iron: Coriolis (Its French, so it has to b good)

I'd try using a shampoo and conditinoer specially formulated for curly hair. As for styling, what did you use when scrunching? I like Garnier's curl shaping gel, that really helps to define my waves, but if you don't like that, running a little bit of shine serum will make your hair silkier, shinier, and get rid of the frizz. Then let your hair air dry and apply a little bit of anti-friz creme to your hair, to help define your waves. Trust me, it's simple and it works!
