What is the best hair cut for poofy,thick, wavy hair?

My hair is wavy, poofy, coarse and thick. I don't mind the waves, but the poofiness drives crazy.I'm too lazy to blow it dry and st8 iron it so I usually just scrunch it and let it air dry. My hair goes down to my mid shoulder blades and it is heavily layered with the shortest layer just below my chin. Is it possible that the layers are making the top strands of my hair lighter, making it easier for them to poof out? Someone told me this was the case... Would it be less poofy is my hair was all one length? Or should I get a cut where I have layers but where the shortest ones start closer to the length of the longest part of my hair? If so how many inches above the longest part and should they be blended layers or graduated? Please help. I need to get my hair cut, but I want a cut that doesn't poof so much. I've been wearing it this way for too long and hate that it does that. Thanks!!!

My hair is the SAME way. Very thick, coarse and frizzy naturally. You'd never know it though. I've lived with it all my life and the best results I've had are when I have it just a little past my shoulders, layered and THINNED. I also moisturize moisturize moisturize. Skip on the salon stuff, it's expensive. I use Neutrogena Triple Moisture shampoo and conditioner, and it's great. It makes me hair so much more manageable. When I want to go curly, I use Dove curling mousse, and when I want to go straight I use my HairArt flatiron. Please keep all this in mind, it'll work wonders on your hair! I know from experience.

id go without the layers, and break out the straightner, even if you are lazy.

or if your like me, with the same problem, on the guys side, i just shaved mine into a mohawk
